Jill, John, and Jess (with Caddie). ^6 Oxidation. White stoneware, colored slip, stain wash. |
"Game, Set, Match explores the idea of service wares and sets for daily use or special occasions. This exhibition focuses on objects that contain and deliver food, drink or seasonings; objects that work together and yet can stand alone. Game, Set, Match highlights service sets that relate to one another through their forms as well as their surface. This show will feature the best in ceramic design: hand-made objects that have a playful twist on functionality or that possess a quiet craftsmanship." Wish me good luck!

Infectious Shelf Disease (Momma Pod and Child) ^6 Reduction. Stoneware, Stain wash, Silver. |
This pod set is a submission for the Home show at Goggleworks in Reading. The set shows a mother pod comforting its child. They both have Infectious Shelf Disease, which is similar to that of the ovarian growths both my mom and I have.
What is “home”? Is it a structure, place, environment, people, neighborhood or community? Thinking beyond the literal, how do you interpret this very familiar subject matter? Is it a specific place, or do you take it everywhere you go? Is it a status symbol or a safe haven? Is it temporary or permanent? Yours or someone else’s? Is it a personal issue or a larger, global issue?
Again...Wish us luck!
Interestingly enough there is a running family theme for these three sets. Functional sets always remind me of family. The first, Chelsea Tea Set, features Chelsea the Teapot with her family. The shakers are named after my sister and two cousins (all J's and born within months of eachother). Last, the pod set is representative of the reproductive issues that both my mom and I suffer from, as well as the comfort she provides for me.
I hope I get accepted!! It would be such a great honor!!
Merry Christmas!!
Ashley
